However, our pricing is based on several factors, such as the level of assistance you require, if you need us to wait during your appointment, if you are traveling after hours, etc. Below is an overview of Elderwheels' pricing model, along with Frequently Asked Questions. Who will be staying with guests at the Elderhouse?A mini-resort stay for elders is characterized by Homeowner/Host (Elsa) being homebound when a guest is booked and able to engage and check on guests intermittently. On occasion, Elderwheels staff (experienced healthcare workers) will swap out with Elsa when she is needed elsewhere.

Is transportation to/from the Elderhouse included?No, transportation to/from the Elderhouse is not included in the respite experience. However, you can book transportation through Elderwheels for an additional fee, which would include transporting your luggage and personal medical equipment that can fit into an Elderwheels van (e.g., your own Hoyer lift, power wheelchair, etc.).

Why is decluttering important?Safety Falls in the home happen most often in the bathroom and bedroom, where there is the most clutter. Reorganizing and removing clutter can prevent falls, injury, and medical costs Quality of Life Elders often have difficulty accessing the items they need because it is difficult to live with decades of prized possessions. Decluttering reduces stress and makes it easier for elders to move in their spaces. Long-Term Planning Decluttering also prevents the surviving family having to have so many things to work on after an elder passes away.

Does the decluttering service include hauling away items?Yes! Our fee includes the time it takes to deliver items leaving the house to appropriate friends/family, donation centers, recycle centers and AGE of Central Texas (medical supplies and medical equipment).

Why do you recommend 2 team members per session?We recommend 2 team members per small project so that one person can remove and organize unwanted items for transport while the other person patiently works through the room with the elder, keeping in mind how they function and what is safe. Working on small projects with two team members also helps build rapport and trust — as well as allow elders to grieve as they process their loss of mobility, youth, and belongings.

What is the cost of "Hospital to Home" transport, and what's included?Schedule your ride home from the hospital: $150 Flat - Austin Area $200 - Surrounding area (Both options add trip fee) This flat fee includes: Loading and transporting your belongings Coordinating with family, hospital nurses, social workers, etc. Making sure you are "tucked in" at home again Returning home can be one of most hectic times, so if you have home health, we can notify them Often when you discharge from a medical facility, there is a lot of "hurry up and wait" going on and we get it (it's "normal").

How do I schedule a service?The quickest way to reach our scheduling managers (Elsa or Amy) is through text at 512-850-6335. We don't have an office or receptionist, and if we are driving, it is not safe to answer the phone. We'll call or text you back when we arrive at our destination and check in on our client. Often, you may get a text from Elsa as a response to your voicemail. This helps you have a visual record of the information we discuss. We don't answer phones while inside medical offices. If you don't respond to a text, we will know to call you. Sometimes texting is not your thing, it's no problem!

What is the cost of "Airport Run" transport, and what's included?Schedule a one-way ride to or from the airport for $150 flat (Austin Area), plus trip fee. Fee includes: Home pickup time Assistance with luggage Assistance with checking in and coordinating with TSA Cares if needed Staying with you up to the TSA security point (where un-ticketed people cannot pass) Sometimes waiting for TSA transport can be 20-30 minutes, so we won't leave you alone! Separate booking for return to includes: Flight pickup, waiting in cell phone lot Baggage assistance and closest exit pickup Driver can park and meet at baggage if needed Everything is customizable, especially when your flight is delayed or after hours. We won't leave until you are safe at home!

How does your pricing compare to other options?Elderwheels is actually LESS expensive than many similar concierge assisted accessible transportation companies in Central Texas. We are also less expensive than private caregivers or the cost of a family member taking off work. Although Uber and the City of Austin do have some wheelchair accessible vehicles, they are few and far between. An Uber may not be available at the time/location you need, and using a specialized city bus can often have long wait times. Uber and bus drivers also do not have the experience to assist the elderly clients or wheelchair users the way that our team does.

It costs a higher hourly rate of $96/hr and includes: Help for clients who need significant physical assistance (i.e., transfer help in/out of bed/wheelchair/toilet) Help for clients who need significant scheduling assistance (i.e., we'll make calls to the medical office on their behalf or coordinate care with the case manager / social worker) Note taking / advocacy for the client if attending appointments alone For adult children living in a different city than their parent, we can help them be "present" at appointments via speaker or video Peace of mind is everything and everyone has different areas where they need support

What are the different cost options for getting picked up?Option 1: Waiting We will wait outside during your appointment and are ready to roll once you finish. Total cost is calculated from pickup time to dropoff back at home. This option works best for quick appointments (ie. lab draws, chiropractic appointments or if you simply don't want to wait for a pickup. Easier than Option 2. Typically more expensive than Option 2 if you have a longer appt like a "new patient exam". Option 2: Staggered Staggered dropoff with another client, we drop you off then return later for pickup Return Surcharge ($30) is applied for the zig zag (your waiting is not charged additionally; time resumes when we return for pickup home). This option usually less costly There may be more wait time for pickup (15 min) but sometimes we are back and waiting for you! Depends on when other clients finish appts also. Please Remember: Our wait time at your appointment affects other bookings. We are often at the mercy of traffic patterns, road accidents, weather and road construction. The biggest factor out of our control is how on time your medical office is running! Sometimes other clients' appointments are changed with little notice, and we try to make it work as well as we can as we know everyone's timing affects others!

While decluttering for elder home safety can be an emotional and overwhelming process, our compassionate team members will work with you space-by-space to clean up and organize your space. We will work with you, not against you, to make your home safer while still respecting your autonomy and comfort.

The Kith and Kin Elderhouse welcomes a short-term stay in a private home, for accessible overnight stays.
It is geared towards people with all levels of abilities, and it includes meals, outings and onsite care.

This unique service is a mini-resort experience for elders to be cared for diligently and with dignity, while experiencing the joy of small town life outside Austin in a family home setting. Elders deserve a vacation, too!
“Kith and Kin” means that guests are welcomed as “friends and family” to our home (entertained by our 2
lively children when they aren't at school or asleep) and are encouraged to enjoy hours of relaxing time
together with us. You can hang with us as much as you want, or we can give you as much space as you want!
